BOOKS AND MATERIALS: Students are expected to have all their current books and materials and a pencil ready for every lesson. The cost of new books or materials will be added to the monthly/quarterly invoice. Each student will also need to have a spiral notebook for assignments (young students in the pre-reading books will have their own matching lesson notebook). . A metronome is necessary for all students playing any level of technique. There are several free metronome apps available but I highly recommend the SpeakBeat app ($1.99) for beginner and Intermediate students.
ALERT: In-person lessons will REQUIRE that you bring all your music and materials. Those who “forget” their music will have to miss their lesson that day with no makeup The studio is not big enough to have duplicate copies of everyone’s music! Each student, regardless of age, is expected to take on the responsibility to pack and bring their own music bag with all the necessary music, etc.
MAKEUPS AND MISSED LESSONS: In order to make appropriate progress, students are expected to honor their lesson times regularly and promptly throughout the year:
* There are NO makeups for a "no-call/no-show".
* There can be NO makeups for an extended vacation. Those wishing to keep their place in the studio must continue making the monthly/quarterly payments.
* Makeups will be made for illness and family emergencies (If this happens within the 24 hour window, please text/email me and I will assign a makeup credit). There are 4 credits allowed between September and the end of May, 2024. If you cannot do a makeup in the week that you miss a private lesson, you may do two lessons in a future week.
*Lessons end at the scheduled time no matter if they begin late.
* You have 60 days to use your makeup credits. Any remaining credits will expire on June 1, 2024.
* Lesson Cancellations must be made no later than 24 hrs. prior to lesson start. No credits/refunds will be made for canceled lessons.
LATE FEES: (10% of total overdue) for any outstanding amount beginning 5 days after the due date of September 1, and each month thereafter up to, and including, May 31, 2024. Be sure to check your emailed invoice and your account often!
LESSONS: All students now have the option to do lessons in-person or by Zoom. Please be prepared with all music, your assignment notebook and a pencil. Online students need to set the phone/iPad/tablet/computer near the keyboard so I can see both your hands on the keyboard from the side and "looking" down as though I was looking over your shoulder. Just before your scheduled lesson time, sign in to Zoom via the blue Zoom link you will find on your lesson time on the My Music Staff calendar, your emailed /texted lesson reminder or the MMS home page. You may enter the Waiting Room early and I will admit you when it is your lesson time. If you are unable to use any of the above electronic devices for a Zoom lesson, we will use our phones and manage that way. Studio lessons need to start promptly at the designated time.

MASTERCLASS PERFORMANCES: These take place once a year for invited students in grades 6-12 and another for adult students. Students will perform one polished piece for a professional pianist/teacher in a non-competitive situation. The judge’s comments contribute to the attending/performing student’s learning, future work and success. The fee will be billed separately.
LESSON TERMINATION: If, for any reason, you wish to stop lessons permanently, 1 month's notice or 1 month's tuition is required within 30 days. Your full intentions MUST BE SUBMITTED IN WRITING via hardcopy or email. I support your search for a new piano teacher and hope you will continue your piano studies and keep me updated as to your progress!
Some points to consider for my last year of piano: we will revert to online lessons during winter weather and when I have to be out of town. You will have plenty of notice of when those dates will be. We will have 34 weeks of piano as usual. In reverse, you will also have the option of choosing online or in-person lessons as needed. I just ask that you give me a heads up so I have my computer Zoom on or plan on seeing you at the door!
